Possible Problems when Landscaping a Garden

Gardens can pose many problems especially when you are landscaping your plot.

Modern properties can often feel over looked. If you are looking to achieve a sense of privacy consider erecting a fence or growing plants to create a softer less imposing divide. Choose mature plants, which are of an established height for immediate results. Before erecting a fence however, do check on your deeds or tenancy agreement to confirm the height of fence that can be used on your boundary.

Growing Gorgeous Greens

Due to popular belief, it is not too late to grow salad and greens in the summer months.

Once you have decided which salad greens to grow, you should invest in an instant planter. These planters are deeper then the average grow bag, which is ideal for plants with deep roots. As greens require a damp compost, most instant planters contain a special gel intended to increase water retention and help support and moisten your plants throughout the warmer weather. This feature also means the water you use will be put to full use, with little waste.

Caring for pots and planters during the warmer months

Not only do pots and containers add a burst of colour into your garden, but once they have been planted they really only need a little care and attention to keep them looking luscious until the autumn months, which can bring frosts.

To ensure a healthy planter, it is important to never let the compost totally dry out. Check daily in summer to prevent this from happening. Water well in the early morning or evening to prevent the heat from the sun scorching the plants foliage.
As plants in containers are restricted to a relatively small space, any nutrients in the soil can soon be exhausted so remember to feed your planters on a regular basis.

Water can also attract a wide array of wildlife into your garden, which will add variety and interest. Although ponds often look at their best during the summer months, this is often the time of year when oxygen levels deplete leaving fish and wildlife under stress.

Don’t Neglect your Front Garden

Front gardens can often be over looked. They do not offer much privacy so are generally ignored in favour of the rear garden where we tend to sped much more of our free time.

Front gardens are a great space. They are seen by passers by on a daily basis and really make a statement about you and your home. Spend a little time titivating your front garden and create a usable and attractive space to make you the envy of your neighbours.

Although you will want to express yourself it is worth considering the style of other gardens on the street or estate. You do not want to stand out for the wrong reasons. Unleash your creativity with the use of different plants, colours, textures and planters.

Many front gardens often have restricted space or access, which can make maintenance an issue. Ideally the best solution is to create a low maintenance garden. Use weed surpressing materials to reduce your work load and consider using pebbles and gravel instead of a lawned area as this will not require regular mowing and will look attractive and add interest to your outdoor space.

Symmetry can work well in small areas. Pots can be placed either side of a door add a dramatic impact to your house front. Use scented flowers such as lavender for a welcoming surprise for visitors.

Whichever root you decide to take, do not neglect your front garden. Use the space freely to create a welcoming space individual to you.
